A thought on discrimination, denial and priority

An aid worker travels to a famine stricken region of Africa to help give out food.

There is enough food for around 1,000 people.

However, there are twice as many people queueing for food – a mixture of men and women.

The aid worker realises there is not enough food to go around, so decides that he will give food to men first, and if there is any food left over, it can be given to women too.

The women go hungry, and yet these same people wouldn’t have gone hungry had the men been women and vice versa.

Is this a denial based on oversubscription to the food aid, or is it a denial based on gender?
