Arrogant and dismissive doctors: a common disease

You wouldn’t believe how many people have contacted me with similar stories to mine – of medical professionals with an “I know better than you” dismissive attitude; who treat anything that’s not straightforward as nonexistent. It’s endemic to the medical profession by the sound of it and very disturbing. On the plus side though, many of the people who contacted me also have success stories of persevering until they meet the right professional who then instantly says “oh yeah it’s probably this!”. I don’t understand how this can be such a common problem. Surely doctors are aware that there are medical conditions that exist beyond the direct scope of their own knowledge.

Oh well. Onward.

The problem is often that doctors are expected to know everything and the trust of people diminishes if the doctor does not know the disease. Fact however is that there are hundreds of sicknesses which are not know by every common doctor or even specialist, and there are of course enough diseases and versions of diseases not yet discovered, links not yet made, variations that are very rare.

On top of that comes the fact that there are INDEED a lot of people who have mental problems – and I am nor talking about “being crazy”, I am talking about simple people. Everything from an unusually high level of stress over a burnout syndrome or a (small) trauma (after a shocking event) up to a post-disease mental problem (panic attacks) can cause the EXACT SAME symptoms.

I know a lot of doctors do not serve their title, and I know there are a lot among them which are very rude on top of that and WAY to quick to shrug something off as a mental issue.

But fact is, pain and even physical detectable symptoms caused by mental problems are often not distinguishable from symptoms being causes by actual physical health problems because the EFFECT it has on you and the SENSATION of the pain are the EXACT same within your brain.

Like I said, I am sure it is a absolutely physical disease in your case, since you seem to not have any mental problems and you seem to be convinced that you did not have a lot of stress or any problematic events before the disease started. But you also have to understand there are people going through similar experience being absolutely convinced their problem is physical when it is actually mental. And a doctor can not be you and feel what you feel. He or she can only look at the tests, check the organs and conclude what is the most likely.

That doesn’t excuse rudeness however, I agree on that.

As there is no medication they can prescribe for us , there is no money in it for them to make said diagnosis. They would much rather call it depression or anxiety as there are some top of the range money spinning medications they can doll out like candy on behalf of their friends in the industry.

Apologies, having read back I see you were referring to something completely different altogether. Hope things work out for you. I’ve been there, nearly completely deaf by age 5. My mother declined the GP’s suggestion of an operation to insert “gromits” into my ears and remarkably aside from occasional tinnitus have regained my hearing completely.
