Just graduated the Couch to 5k program.

Feeling proud today, I just completed the Couch to 5k running program. Going from doing zero exercise to running 5k (or 3 miles) three or four times a week, with ease. I really recommend it. Here are five things I learned on the way:

1. It’s hardest at the beginning and the difficulty is more psychological than physical. Once your mind gets used to the routine of getting your shoes on and stepping out the door each time, that’s most of the battle won. I’ve actually reached the point now where I feel like I NEED to run regularly.

 2. Running is a really good way to escape from everything else in your life, and to really get immersed in your thoughts, music, and the world around you.

 3. If you miss a day, or even a week, or a month, don’t give up. Just get out there and run again.

 4. After running, I found I had MORE energy to do other things in the day rather than less. It feels like your whole body is being reminded that you are alive and healthy.

 5. I am capable of more than I gave myself credit for, and no doubt so are you.
