Thoughts on Porn

This morning somebody asked me for my thoughts on porn in aural form, so I thought and thought until I was ethically caught in a awful storm. Thanks to Chris Ollis (http://www.happytoast.co.uk) for the video. He’s managed to cram so many easter eggs in it’s incredible. And I’m glad I’m not saying that in the context of an actual porn film.

As you articulate so well, in my mind it all depend on how it is made. It comes down to free and informed consent of all participants. If it’s genuinely a free choice of adult participants then I can’t see any reasonable grounds to impose my personal squeamishness on anyone who’s erotic tastes don’t happen to match mine.

I have no doubt that there is exploitation in porn production & that’s a terrible thing. Perhaps removing the hypocritical stigma many attach to lifestyles that differ from their own, especially around issues of sexuality, would make cases of abuse less common and easier to prevent. Banning and stigmatizing things rarely prevents them, especially if there is such a strong primary drive attached to them. Most likely legal and social disapproval drives production underground, away from proper scrutiny to ensure consent, and prevents consumers of pornography from being open about it with their partners.

piece of writing presents fastiddious understanding yet.
